Berlin in mid-June is at its most usable: long evenings, canal-side bars, and a city spread widely enough that districts feel genuinely distinct. An AI summit lands in a capital where the startup economy concentrates around Mitte and Kreuzberg, and where the twentieth century is visible on ordinary streets rather than confined to museums. Distances are large by European standards, so the S-Bahn and U-Bahn matter more than walking.
Berlin Brandenburg (BER) connects to the centre in about thirty minutes on the FEX airport express or regional trains to Hauptbahnhof. The S-Bahn, U-Bahn, tram and bus network operates on a single fare system with AB covering almost everything a delegate needs. Tickets must be validated before boarding. Cycling is widespread and hire schemes are extensive across the inner districts.

Coverage is solid above ground, though some older U-Bahn tunnels remain patchy. An eSIM avoids German prepaid registration requirements, which involve an identity verification step that is inconvenient for short stays. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
East Side Gallery and Kreuzberg. The longest surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall, painted by artists from 1990 onwards, running just over a kilometre along the Spree. It leads directly into Kreuzberg's canal-side bars and Turkish markets. Best early before tour groups arrive. Two hours combined.
Museum Island. Five state museums on a Spree island, including the Pergamon collections and the Neues Museum holding the bust of Nefertiti. Ongoing renovation affects which buildings are open, so check before travelling. One museum properly beats three at speed. Two to three hours. Tickets on Tiqets →
Tempelhofer Feld. A decommissioned airport whose runways and apron are now an open public park, with cyclists and kite-buggies using the taxiways and the terminal building visible along one edge. It is unlike any other city park in Europe. Two hours, best towards sunset.
Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe. A field of 2,711 concrete stelae on uneven ground near the Brandenburg Gate, with an underground information centre beneath. It is deliberately disorienting to walk through. Allow an hour including the documentation centre, which is sober and detailed.
How is the airport connected?
The FEX express and regional trains reach Hauptbahnhof in about thirty minutes, running several times an hour.
Which transport ticket is needed?
An AB zone ticket covers the whole inner city including most conference venues. BER airport sits in zone C, so an ABC ticket is required for the airport journey.
What is the weather like in mid-June?
Warm with very long evenings, and thundery showers are possible. Berlin is drier than western Germany but not reliably so.
