Rheingau wine villages. Across and upriver from Mainz, villages such as Eltville and Rüdesheim sit among steep Riesling vineyards. Regional trains along the right bank take twenty to forty minutes. Late September is harvest season, when village wine festivals and estate tastings are at their most active.
