Warsaw at the end of September is entering autumn properly — highs around seventeen degrees, early sunsets, and the parks turning colour. The city reads as a series of reconstructions and rebuilds, from the meticulously restored old town to the glass towers of the Wola business district, and the contrast is the point. Developer events here tend to cluster near the centre, where trams, metro and suburban rail all converge.
Chopin Airport (WAW) sits ten kilometres south of the centre, with S2 and S3 suburban trains reaching Warszawa Śródmieście in around twenty minutes and bus 175 running to the old town. Modlin (WMI), used mainly by low-cost carriers, is roughly forty kilometres north and needs a bus and train combination of about an hour. Long-distance trains use Warszawa Centralna.

Polish mobile data is fast and inexpensive, with reliable coverage on the metro. A prepaid eSIM loaded before travel keeps a working connection from the moment of landing without depending on airport WiFi. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Warsaw Rising Museum. A dense, well-designed account of the 1944 uprising in a converted power station in Wola. It takes two to three hours and is emotionally heavy going. Audio guides are available in English and worth taking. Arriving at opening avoids the school groups that fill the ground floor by late morning. Tickets on Tiqets →
Łazienki Park. Warsaw's largest park, south of the centre, built around a palace on an artificial island with peacocks, an amphitheatre and a Chopin monument. It is at its best in autumn colour and covers enough ground for a genuine two-hour walk. Free to enter; the palace interiors are ticketed separately.
Neon Muzeum. In the Praga district across the Vistula, this collection of restored cold war era neon signs occupies a former factory complex at Soho Factory. It is a compact hour and the surrounding regenerated industrial site has decent cafés. Best seen late in the day when the signs are lit.
Palace of Culture viewing terrace. The Stalin-era tower in the centre has a thirtieth-floor terrace giving the clearest overview of how the city is laid out. The queue moves quickly outside weekends. Clear evenings are the payoff, though the terrace is exposed and cold once the wind picks up.
How do I get from Chopin Airport to the centre?
The S2 or S3 suburban train reaches Warszawa Śródmieście in about twenty minutes. Bus 175 is an alternative that runs toward the old town.
Is Poland on the euro?
No. The currency is the Polish złoty. Card and contactless payment work almost everywhere, including buses and trams, so cash is rarely necessary.
What is the weather like in late September?
Expect daytime highs near fifteen to eighteen degrees Celsius with cool mornings and a fair chance of rain. A warm layer and waterproof jacket are advisable.
