Buenos Aires in October is deep in spring, with jacaranda coming into flower and temperatures settling in the low twenties Celsius. Argentina's security community has met in this city for decades, generally in venues around Palermo and the central districts. The city keeps late hours by any standard, with dinner rarely before nine, which suits a conference schedule that runs long into the evening.
Ezeiza International (EZE) sits about thirty-five kilometres southwest, with official taxis and remises reaching the centre in forty-five to sixty minutes. Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (AEP) handles domestic and regional flights and is only fifteen to twenty minutes from Palermo. The Subte underground covers the central corridors cheaply with a SUBE card, and buses run extensively but need the same card.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Kiwitaxi. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Argentine coverage is solid in Buenos Aires. Given fluctuating exchange arrangements and the paperwork for local SIMs, an eSIM bought before arrival is markedly simpler for short visits. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Recoleta Cemetery. A walled city of mausoleums in the north of the centre, including Eva Perón's grave. The scale and density of the marble avenues is the draw. Ninety minutes covers a proper wander. It sits beside the Recoleta cultural centre and a large weekend craft market on the adjacent park. Tickets on Tiqets →
San Telmo and the Sunday feria. The oldest quarter, with cobbled streets, antique dealers, and a Sunday market that fills Defensa street for a kilometre. Half a day on a Sunday, less on other days. Tango performances in Plaza Dorrego are aimed at visitors but the neighbourhood itself remains genuinely lived in.
Teatro Colón. One of the world's major opera houses, with guided tours running through the day in several languages. The tour lasts about fifty minutes and covers the main hall, the golden salon, and the acoustics. Booking ahead is worthwhile. Evening performances are a stronger option for anyone with a free night. Palermo parks and MALBA. The Bosques de Palermo hold rose gardens, lakes, and running paths, with the MALBA museum of Latin American art nearby. Two to three hours covers a park walk and the museum. Spring is the best season for the gardens, and the area is where most conference hotels cluster.
Which airport will I arrive at?
International flights use Ezeiza (EZE), forty-five to sixty minutes from the centre. Aeroparque (AEP) handles regional routes and is much closer.
How should I handle money in Argentina?
Card acceptance is broad in the city. Exchange arrangements change frequently, so check current guidance close to your travel dates.
What is the weather like in October?
Spring conditions, generally pleasant in the low twenties Celsius, with occasional rain and cooler nights.
