Milwaukee Mitchell International (MKE) is unusually close, about 15 minutes south of downtown by road, with an Amtrak station adjacent. Chicago O'Hare (ORD) is roughly 90 minutes to two hours away and connected by frequent Amtrak Hiawatha services to downtown Milwaukee, which many travellers prefer to driving. The downtown streetcar and buses cover the central districts.

Downtown venues and hotels have solid Wi-Fi, though a security conference is one context where using untrusted networks deserves thought. Milwaukee Art Museum. Calatrava's lakefront pavilion with a moveable brise-soleil that opens and closes over the entrance hall at set times daily, above a serious collection of American and German art. Historic Third Ward. A district of restored warehouses south of downtown holding the public market, independent shops and much of the city's restaurant scene, walkable from the centre in fifteen minutes. Evenings are the point. Two to three hours including dinner at the market hall.
Pabst Mansion. The 1892 Flemish Renaissance Revival home of the brewing magnate, restored with much of its original interior and a direct window into the era that built Milwaukee. Guided tours only. Ninety minutes, and it sits west of downtown near Marquette.
Lakefront Brewery. A working brewery on the Milwaukee River known for a deliberately irreverent tour that ends in the taproom, in a city where brewing history is the civic identity. Book ahead as tours fill. Ninety minutes, and it is a short ride from downtown.
