DevOpsDays Bogotá takes place in late October, in the middle of the city's second wet season, with cool days around 18–19°C and genuinely cold nights — Bogotá sits at roughly 2,640 metres on the Andean savanna. Most delegates stay in Chapinero or the Zona G, close to the restaurants and within reach of the historic Candelaria district. The altitude is the one thing visitors consistently underestimate; give yourself a slow first day.
El Dorado International (BOG) is the main gateway for the region and lies about 30–45 minutes from the northern hotel districts, longer in peak traffic. Authorised airport taxis and ride-hailing both operate. In the city, the TransMilenio bus rapid transit network runs on dedicated lanes and is by far the quickest way to cross town at rush hour, though it gets extremely crowded. Avoid driving yourself.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Kiwitaxi. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Data coverage across Bogotá is good and ride-hailing apps are the default way to move at night. Loading a prepaid eSIM before arrival means you are not hunting for a SIM counter after a long flight. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Cerro de Monserrate. A funicular and a cable car both climb to the shrine at 3,152 metres above the city, with a view over the whole savanna. Go on a clear morning — cloud builds through the day in October. Allow half a day including the queue. Tickets on Tiqets →
Museo del Oro. The gold museum holds tens of thousands of pre-Hispanic metalwork pieces and is one of the finest museums in South America. Two hours minimum. It sits at the edge of La Candelaria, so it pairs naturally with a walk through the colonial streets.
La Candelaria. The colonial core, with painted facades, the Botero donation at the Banco de la República, and university cafés. Walk it in daylight with a guide or in a group, keep valuables out of sight, and set aside a full morning.
Usaquén Sunday market. A former village absorbed by the northern city, with a crafts market that fills the streets each Sunday and a cluster of good restaurants around the plaza. It is the most relaxed way to spend a spare weekend day. Arrive late morning.
How should I handle the altitude?
Bogotá sits at about 2,640 metres. Take the first day slowly, drink plenty of water, and go easy on alcohol until you have adjusted.
What is October weather like?
Cool and often wet — highs near 19°C, cold after dark, and frequent rain. Pack layers and a waterproof jacket rather than heavy coats.
Is TransMilenio worth using?
For crossing the city at peak hours, yes — it is far faster than road traffic. Outside peak times ride-hailing is more comfortable and still inexpensive.
