Barcelona in late September is still firmly in summer mode — highs around twenty-five degrees, warm sea, and the city returning to work after August. That combination makes it one of the better European conference months: outdoor dinners remain viable well into the evening, and the beach is a fifteen-minute metro ride from most business districts. The grid layout of the Eixample makes navigation simple once the diagonal avenues are understood.
Josep Tarradellas Barcelona–El Prat (BCN) lies fifteen kilometres southwest. The Aerobús runs to Plaça de Catalunya in about thirty-five minutes, Metro line L9 Sud connects to the network for a supplement, and R2 Nord trains reach Sants and Passeig de Gràcia in around twenty-five. High-speed AVE trains link Madrid to Barcelona Sants in two and a half hours.

Spanish networks cover the city well including the metro tunnels. Non-EU visitors avoid roaming charges entirely with a prepaid data eSIM, which is worth arranging before arrival rather than hunting for a shop mid-trip. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Sagrada Família. Gaudí's basilica needs a timed ticket booked well in advance, particularly for tower access, which involves a lift up and a spiral descent. Late afternoon light through the western stained glass is the reason to time a visit for then. Budget ninety minutes including security queues. Tickets on Tiqets →
Park Güell. On Carmel hill north of the centre, the monumental zone with the mosaic terrace is ticketed and capacity-controlled, while the surrounding park is free. Access involves a climb or an escalator route from Lesseps metro. Early morning slots are cooler and considerably less crowded than midday. Tickets on Tiqets →
Barceloneta and the seafront promenade. The beach district east of the old port has a flat promenade running several kilometres toward Bogatell and Mar Bella. September water stays warm enough to swim. The traditional restaurants a street back from the sand tend to be better value than those directly on the promenade.
Montjuïc hill. Reached by funicular or cable car, Montjuïc holds the Joan Miró Foundation, the 1929 exhibition grounds, the Olympic ring and gardens with wide views over the port. A half-day covers it comfortably. Walking down through the gardens toward Poble Sec is more pleasant than the climb up. Tickets on Go City →
What is the quickest route from the airport?
The Aerobús to Plaça de Catalunya takes roughly thirty-five minutes and runs frequently. R2 Nord trains reach Passeig de Gràcia in about twenty-five minutes if your hotel is near that line.
Is it still warm enough for the beach?
Generally yes. Late September usually brings highs near twenty-four to twenty-seven degrees Celsius, and the Mediterranean retains summer warmth well into October.
How careful should I be about pickpocketing?
Reasonably. Las Ramblas, the metro and crowded beach areas see opportunistic theft. Keeping bags closed and phones out of back pockets handles most of the risk.
