The Game Developers Conference 2027, now presented as GDC Festival of Gaming, is the world's largest and most influential professional event for the game development community, held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Across five days, professionals from every game development discipline — design, engineering, art, audio, production, publishing, and investment — convene to learn, network, and shape the industry's direction. The programme is organised around numerous Summit Communities covering areas including game AI, level design, narrative, technical art, machine learning, tools, UX, visual effects, and independent games. GDC's scale means it functions simultaneously as a technical conference, a business venue, and the industry's principal annual meeting point. Attendees gain access to postmortems and technical talks from teams behind major releases, alongside the expo floor and extensive structured networking. The call for submissions for the 2027 edition closes on August 7, 2026. For anyone working professionally in games, GDC remains the definitive fixture on the calendar.
GDC 2027 takes place March 1–5, 2027 in San Francisco, United States.
GDC 2027 is an in-person event.

Early March marks the turn of San Francisco's season, with the rains easing and the first properly clear days returning. The conference dominates SoMa for its week, filling the Moscone complex and spilling into the surrounding hotels, bars and rented venues until the whole district effectively becomes the event. Beyond those blocks the city's older neighbourhoods — Chinatown, North Beach, the Mission — sit within a short transit ride.
San Francisco International (SFO) links to downtown by BART in about 30 minutes, arriving within walking distance of the SoMa venues. Oakland (OAK) works as an alternative via a BART shuttle connection. In the city, Muni buses, the historic F-line streetcar and the cable car lines cover the central districts. Conference week traffic in SoMa is heavy, so transit beats driving.

Venue Wi-Fi is provisioned for very high density during conference week but still strains at peak times. Mobile networks in SoMa become congested when the district fills. International visitors should arrange an eSIM in advance rather than relying on venue networks alone. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Chinatown. The oldest Chinatown in North America, a dense grid of temples, herbalists and dim sum restaurants beginning at the Dragon Gate on Grant Avenue, twenty minutes on foot from SoMa. Waverly Place and the fortune cookie factory alley reward wandering off the main street. Two hours.
Golden Gate Park. A rectangle of parkland larger than Central Park, running west to the ocean, containing the de Young Museum, the California Academy of Sciences and a Japanese tea garden. Early March brings the first blossom. Half a day minimum; JFK Drive is car-free at weekends. Tickets on Go City →
Cable Car Museum. In the working powerhouse on Nob Hill, where the cables driving the surviving lines are visibly spinning beneath the floor. Entry is free and the machinery explains a system most visitors only ride. Forty-five minutes, and it pairs well with a ride down the Powell-Hyde line.
Mission District murals. Balmy Alley and Clarion Alley hold decades of politically charged street art in a neighbourhood with the city's best burritos and its warmest microclimate. Reachable by BART to 16th or 24th Street. Two hours, ideally on a clear afternoon.
Where should I stay for the conference?
SoMa puts the venues within walking distance, though rooms during conference week are scarce and expensive — book far ahead.
How do I get in from the airport?
BART from SFO reaches the SoMa stations in about 30 minutes and avoids conference-week road traffic.
What is the weather in early March?
Cool and changeable, roughly 10-16C, with the rainy season easing but not over. Layers and a light waterproof are advisable.
