IJCAI-ECAI takes over Bremen for a full week in late August — a Hanseatic port city that most AI researchers will be visiting for the first time, and that rewards them with a UNESCO-listed market square, the Schnoor quarter's dollhouse lanes, and the easy unhurried scale of a city of half a million. Late August is North German summer at its best: 22–25°C and long evenings.
Bremen Airport (BRE) is famously convenient — tram line 6 runs from the terminal to the Hauptbahnhof and city centre in 17 minutes. Coming through Hamburg (1 h) or Hannover (1 h) by ICE train is the standard rail approach, and Deutschlandticket holders can do it on regional trains. Within Bremen, trams cover everything; a conference week here needs no car.

Schnoor quarter. The city's oldest district is a maze of 15th-century fishermen's houses now holding artisan shops, cafés and improbably narrow passages. It is compact enough for a 45-minute wander between sessions and sits ten minutes' walk from the market square.

Böttcherstraße. A 100-metre street rebuilt in the 1920s as brick-expressionist gesamtkunstwerk — golden reliefs, artisan workshops, a carillon of Meissen porcelain bells that plays at noon and 15:00. It connects the market square toward the Weser riverbank promenade.
How do I get from Bremen Airport to the city?
Tram 6, 17 minutes to the Hauptbahnhof, running every ten minutes. It is one of Europe's easiest airport connections.
Should I fly to Bremen or via Hamburg?
Bremen (BRE) if a reasonable connection exists. Otherwise Hamburg (HAM) plus a one-hour ICE train is painless and often cheaper on long-haul routes.
