MWC Barcelona fills Fira Gran Via in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat at the start of March, when the city is mild and the telecom industry descends en masse. The venue sits on the southwestern edge of Barcelona, away from the tourist core, so most attendees commute along the Gran Via each morning. Plan around the scale: hotels across the metro area book out months ahead, and evenings are packed with partner dinners in Eixample and the old town.
Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) is close to the fairground. Metro line L9 Sud runs from both airport terminals to Europa|Fira station, next to Fira Gran Via, in roughly 20–25 minutes. From central Barcelona, the L1 and L9 lines and FGC trains reach Plaça d'Europa. Taxis from the airport take around 15–20 minutes outside rush hour, though queues during MWC week can be long.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Welcome Pickups. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Expect heavy network load around the fairground during the show; arriving with an eSIM data plan already active spares you hunting for a SIM shop between meetings. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Montjuïc and Plaça d'Espanya. Montjuïc rises just north of Fira Gran Via, with the MNAC art museum, Olympic Ring and gardens overlooking the port. Walk up from Plaça d'Espanya on a free afternoon; two to three hours lets you see the museum terrace and gardens without rushing. Tickets on Tiqets →
Casa Batlló. Gaudí's Casa Batlló on Passeig de Gràcia is an easy metro hop from the Fira. Timed tickets sell out during MWC week, so book a slot early in the morning or late evening; the visit with audio guide takes about an hour. Tickets on Tiqets →
El Born and the Picasso Museum. The medieval lanes of El Born house the Picasso Museum and the Santa Maria del Mar basilica, plus many tapas bars for client dinners. Allow ninety minutes for the museum and reserve tables in advance during the congress.
Barceloneta seafront. After four days on the show floor, a walk along the Barceloneta promenade is a good reset. March evenings are cool, but beachfront restaurants serving paella stay open, and the area is reachable by metro line L4.
Is Fira Gran Via in Barcelona city centre?
No. It is in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, about 20 minutes by metro from Plaça de Catalunya, and very close to the airport via line L9 Sud.
What is the weather in Barcelona in early March?
Early March is mild, with daytime temperatures typically around 13–18°C and cooler evenings. A light coat is sensible for commuting.
