Late November on the Baltic is dark and cold, and Gdansk leans into it: the Main Town's brick facades and amber shopfronts glow under early streetlights, and Christmas market stalls are typically going up around the same dates. ARCHE Dwor Uphagena occupies a restored manor in Wrzeszcz, a residential district north of the historic core, which gives a one-day Postgres conference a quiet setting away from the tourist streets.
Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport (GDN) lies about 12 km west, connected by the PKM commuter rail and by bus, with taxis taking roughly 20 to 25 minutes. Warsaw is around three hours away by direct express train to Gdansk Glowny. Locally the SKM commuter line and trams link Wrzeszcz to the Main Town in about ten to fifteen minutes, running frequently through the evening.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Kiwitaxi. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Polish mobile coverage is strong and cafe Wi-Fi is common, but a November trip means a lot of time outdoors checking tram times in the dark. An eSIM activated in advance keeps transit apps and maps available without hunting for a hotspot. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Dlugi Targ and the Main Town. The reconstructed merchant thoroughfare running from the Golden Gate to the Green Gate, with Neptune's Fountain and the town hall along the way. Late November evenings bring lights and market stalls. An unhurried hour on foot covers it; climb the town hall tower if the weather is clear.
European Solidarity Centre. Built beside the former shipyard gates, this museum traces Solidarnosc and the end of communist rule in Poland. The permanent exhibition is substantial and needs two to three hours. The rooftop terrace and the adjacent memorial to the fallen shipyard workers are worth the extra twenty minutes. Museum of the Second World War. A largely underground building near the Motlawa river, presenting the war from a civilian and Central European perspective. It is dense and emotionally heavy; budget three hours and go early in the day. Ten minutes on foot from the Main Town, and a natural indoor choice in cold weather.
Oliwa Cathedral and Park. Two stops north of Wrzeszcz by SKM, a Cistercian church known for its elaborate 18th-century organ, with short recitals scheduled through the day. The surrounding park is bare but atmospheric in late autumn. Allow ninety minutes including the ride from the conference district.
How cold is Gdansk in late November?
Cold and damp, with daytime temperatures usually between roughly 2 and 6 Celsius, frequent grey skies and sunset before 16:00. Pack a proper winter coat, waterproof shoes and gloves.
How do I get from the airport to Wrzeszcz?
The PKM commuter train runs from the airport toward Gdansk Wrzeszcz in about twenty minutes, and taxis or ride-hailing take a similar time by road. Both are straightforward on arrival.
Can I pay by card everywhere?
Contactless card payment is near-universal in Poland, including trams, museums and small cafes. Carrying a little cash in zloty is still handy for market stalls.
