Pune in early October has just shaken off the monsoon: greener than at any other time of year, warm without the pre-rain heat, and comfortable for evenings outdoors. St Laurn sits in Koregaon Park, the leafiest and most walkable of the city's neighbourhoods, where bungalow-lined lanes hold bakeries, bookshops and a long-standing cafe culture. For a community-run Postgres meetup, it is an unusually pleasant base.
Pune International (PNQ) at Lohegaon is the closest airport, roughly 20-30 minutes by taxi to Koregaon Park depending on traffic. Mumbai (BOM) is the bigger international gateway, three to four hours away by road on the expressway, or about three and a half hours by train to Pune Junction. Pune Metro and app-based cabs cover the city; autorickshaws are plentiful for short hops.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Kiwitaxi. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Hotel and cafe Wi-Fi in Koregaon Park is generally reliable, but ride-hailing and UPI payments both depend on a working data connection the moment you step outside. An eSIM loaded before departure saves hunting for a local SIM counter on arrival. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Aga Khan Palace. A short ride across the river in Yerwada, this 19th-century palace held Gandhi and his companions in detention and now houses a memorial and museum. The arcaded verandas and quiet gardens take about an hour. Mornings are cooler and far less busy than weekend afternoons.
Osho Teerth Park. A landscaped strip of shaded walkways, streams and dense bamboo running right through Koregaon Park, ten minutes from the venue. Free entry, open mornings and late afternoons only. It is the easiest way to get a genuine break between sessions without leaving the neighbourhood.
Shaniwar Wada. The fortified seat of the Peshwa rulers in the old city, with its massive gateway and surviving foundations. Allow about an hour, and go in the late afternoon when the light is good and the heat has dropped. Combine it with a walk through the surrounding market lanes. Tickets on Klook →
Sinhagad Fort. A hill fort roughly an hour southwest of the city, reached by car with a short uphill walk at the end. Post-monsoon October leaves the ridge green and the views over the Sahyadris clear. Half a day, ideally starting early; local stalls at the top sell pithla bhakri and buttermilk.
Should I fly into Pune or Mumbai?
Fly into Pune (PNQ) if a convenient connection exists, since it is only a short taxi ride from Koregaon Park. Otherwise Mumbai (BOM) has far more international routes, with a three to four hour road or rail transfer.
What is the weather like in October?
Post-monsoon Pune is warm and mostly dry, with daytime temperatures usually in the high twenties Celsius and noticeably cooler evenings. Occasional late showers are possible early in the month.
How do I pay for things locally?
Cards are accepted at hotels and larger restaurants, but UPI apps and cash dominate for autorickshaws, street food and small shops. Carry some rupees in small denominations.
