Orlando in early April is warm and humid but short of the summer extremes, with afternoons in the high twenties Celsius and the daily thunderstorm season not yet fully established. Central Florida's conference infrastructure is built around large resort and convention properties clustered on the International Drive corridor, south-west of the actual city. Downtown Orlando and its lake district are a separate place entirely, and worth the short drive.
Orlando International (MCO) is roughly 20-30 minutes from the International Drive convention corridor and about the same from downtown. Sanford (SFB) serves some low-cost routes but is considerably further out. Rideshare and hotel shuttles handle most transfers; the Lynx bus system and the I-Ride trolley cover the tourist corridor, but a car is the practical option for anything beyond it.

Resort and convention Wi-Fi in Orlando is generally strong, sometimes tiered behind a resort fee. Coverage drops in the wetland preserves outside the city. Kennedy Space Center. About an hour east on the Atlantic coast, with the Atlantis orbiter displayed in flight configuration, a Saturn V under roof and bus tours of the launch complexes. Lake Eola Park. Downtown Orlando's centrepiece, a lake with a fountain, a swan boat concession and a Sunday farmers market, ringed by a walking path and the city's low skyline. It is the antidote to the resort corridor. Ninety minutes, best in the early evening.
Winter Park. A separate town north of Orlando with brick streets, the Morse Museum's Tiffany glass collection and a boat tour through the chain of lakes and their connecting canals. Two to three hours, and the scenic boat tour is the distinctive part.
Wekiwa Springs State Park. Twenty-five minutes north, a natural spring holding a constant water temperature year-round, with paddling on the river and trails through Florida hammock and pine. April is warm enough to swim. Half a day, and arrive early since the park closes when capacity fills.

Helpful. The I-Ride trolley covers the tourist corridor, but Kennedy Space Center, Winter Park and the springs all effectively require driving.
