The Quantum Computing Scalability Conference 2027 (QCSC 2027) is a biennial meeting organised by the UK's National Quantum Computing Centre (NQCC), now in its third edition. It focuses squarely on the bottlenecks that stand between today's quantum devices and large-scale machines, inviting experts from across quantum platforms, from engineering to quantum physics, to share cross-disciplinary insight and candid assessments of what scaling really requires. The 2027 conference runs in person from 31 March to 2 April 2027 at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Oxford, with a poster and networking evening on 1 April. The poster session is capped at 60 entries, and two selected posters are promoted to oral presentations. The programme combines in-depth technical talks, panel discussions and keynote and invited speakers, aimed at researchers, industry teams and the current and future quantum workforce; students are encouraged to ask about fee support. Alongside the science, the event sets out to strengthen the UK quantum computing community and international collaboration. For a field where hardware progress depends on solving scaling problems across many disciplines at once, QCSC provides a focused forum for comparing approaches and identifying where effort is most needed.
Quantum Computing Scalability Conference 2027 takes place Mar 31 – Apr 2, 2027 in Oxford, United Kingdom.
Quantum Computing Scalability Conference 2027 is an in-person event.

The NQCC's Quantum Computing Scalability Conference runs from the end of March into early April at the Mathematical Institute in Oxford, in the Radcliffe Observatory Quarter just north of the old city centre. Early spring here means blossom on the college walls, unpredictable showers and colleges reopening to visitors after the winter. The Andrew Wiles Building is a fifteen-minute walk from the railway station and ten from the covered market, so the whole trip is walkable.
London Heathrow (LHR) is the practical airport: the Airline coach runs directly to Oxford roughly every half hour and takes around 90 minutes with no change. Gatwick (LGW) is served by the same operator in about two and a half hours. From central London, trains from Paddington or Marylebone reach Oxford in 55 to 70 minutes. The city itself is best covered on foot or by bicycle.

Oxford has good mobile coverage and the university buildings and cafes offer reliable Wi-Fi, though thick college stonework can weaken signal indoors. If you are travelling from outside the UK, an eSIM set up before departure covers the coach journey from the airport, where you will most want live directions. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Bodleian Library and the Divinity School. The Divinity School's fan-vaulted ceiling is the single most striking interior in Oxford and entry is inexpensive. Extended tours reach Duke Humfrey's Library above it. Book ahead, since tour sizes are capped, and allow an hour for the standard route. Tickets on Tiqets →
The Ashmolean Museum. Britain's oldest public museum, five minutes from the conference venue on Beaumont Street, with free entry and a genuinely broad collection from Minoan pottery to Pissarro. The rooftop terrace is open in decent weather. Two hours is a sensible first visit.
Punting on the Cherwell. Flat-bottomed boats hired from the Cherwell Boathouse or Magdalen Bridge, poled from the back with more difficulty than it looks. Early April is the start of the season and the river is quiet. Two hours, and expect to get at least one sleeve wet.
Port Meadow. An unenclosed common on the Thames northwest of the centre, grazed continuously for a thousand years and never ploughed. Walk out from Walton Well Road for a wide flat horizon and horses standing in the water meadows. An easy ninety-minute round trip from the venue.
What is the best airport for Oxford?
Heathrow, because the Airline coach runs direct to Oxford in roughly 90 minutes without needing to go through central London. Gatwick is served by the same route but takes considerably longer.
What is the weather like at the end of March?
Early spring and changeable: usually 6 to 14 degrees Celsius with a real chance of rain on any given day. A waterproof layer is more useful than a heavy coat.
Do I need to book college visits in advance?
Many colleges have restricted or ticketed access and some close to visitors during term. Check individual college websites the week before, as opening hours change at short notice.
