Warsaw Old Town. Painstakingly reconstructed after wartime destruction and now UNESCO-listed precisely for that reconstruction. The market square and barbican are the core. Two hours on foot, and considerably more atmospheric in the evening when the Christmas market lighting is on.
POLIN Museum. A museum of the history of Polish Jews, covering a thousand years through a well-designed narrative sequence rather than object display. Lazienki Park. A landscaped royal park with a palace built on an island and free-roaming peacocks. Winter strips it back to bare structure, which suits the neoclassical architecture. An hour of walking, and it is a short tram ride south of the centre.
Which airport should I fly into?
Chopin (WAW) is far closer to the centre and better connected. Modlin (WMI) is used by budget carriers and requires a coach transfer of about an hour.
What currency is used?
The Polish zloty. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, and Poland's contactless payment infrastructure is excellent.
How cold is late November?
Cold, often around or below freezing, with a real chance of snow. A warm coat, hat and gloves are necessary.
