TechEx North America takes over the convention district in downtown San Jose, which is the one genuinely urban core in a valley otherwise built around business parks. Mid-June is dry and hot, often touching 28C, cooling sharply after sunset. The advantage of the downtown location is that hotels, restaurants and the halls sit within a few blocks of each other, so delegates can run a two-day event on foot in a region where that is rarely possible.
San Jose Mineta (SJC) is about 10 minutes north of downtown, with VTA light rail and buses connecting to the convention district and airport shuttles running to the main hotels. Caltrain's Diridon Station is a short ride or a twenty-minute walk from the centre and links north up the peninsula to San Francisco in around 90 minutes. VTA light rail runs through downtown itself.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Kiwitaxi. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Downtown San Jose has strong coverage and the hotels are well provisioned. An eSIM organised before departure avoids US roaming charges for international delegates and works from the SJC arrivals hall. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
San Jose Museum of Art. On Plaza de Cesar Chavez in the middle of downtown, a modern and contemporary collection with a strong West Coast focus, housed partly in an 1892 post office. Small enough to see properly in ninety minutes and a two-minute walk from the convention district.
Japantown. One of only three historic Japantowns left in the United States, about a mile north of downtown, with family-run restaurants, a Buddhist temple and the Japanese American Museum. A better dinner option than the chain blocks nearer the halls. Two hours including a meal.
Municipal Rose Garden. Five and a half acres of heritage roses in the Rose Garden neighbourhood, at their peak in June and free to enter. A twenty-minute ride from downtown and the most pleasant hour available in the city in early summer. Go in the morning before the heat.
Guadalupe River Trail. A paved path running from downtown north past Diridon towards the bay, usable for a run or an early walk before sessions start. Flat, shaded in stretches and directly accessible from the convention district. An hour out and back.
Can I manage without a car?
In downtown San Jose, yes - the halls, hotels and restaurants are within a few blocks, and VTA light rail plus the airport shuttle cover arrivals. A car only matters if you plan to range across the valley.
How far is San Francisco?
About 90 minutes by Caltrain from Diridon Station, or an hour's drive without traffic. It is a feasible evening or extra-day trip but not a daily commute.
What is the weather like in June?
Hot and dry, often around 28C in the afternoon, cooling noticeably after dark. Rain is very unlikely.
