UXLx: User Experience Lisbon spans four days in mid-May, arguably the Portuguese capital's finest month: reliably sunny, warm without the summer heat, and with jacaranda trees coming into violet bloom along the avenues. For designers, researchers and product people, the city is itself a study in craft, from hand-painted azulejo tile facades to patterned limestone pavements. The length of the programme leaves room for long evenings outdoors, and Lisbon's dining culture runs late enough to make use of them.
Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) sits unusually close to the city, about seven kilometres from the centre. The metro's red line starts at the terminal and connects with the rest of the network, reaching central districts in roughly 20 to 30 minutes, while taxis and ride-hailing often take 15 to 25 minutes outside peak hours. Lisbon is built on steep hills, so a hotel's proximity to a metro station matters more than map distance suggests.

Belém. Oceanário de Lisboa. In the modern Parque das Nações district, built for the 1998 World Exposition, this aquarium is organised around a vast central tank visible from two levels. It ranks among Europe's best and takes about two hours. The surrounding waterfront promenade, cable car and Vasco da Gama Bridge views make the area worthwhile beyond the aquarium itself. Sintra day trip. Suburban trains from Rossio station reach Sintra in about 40 minutes. The hill town's romantic palaces, including the colourful Pena Palace and the mysterious gardens of Quinta da Regaleira, form a UNESCO cultural landscape. Is a car useful in Lisbon?
