Clearwater sits on Florida's Gulf coast, and a conference here at the start of December arrives in the state's best weather window: warm, dry and free of both summer humidity and hurricane risk. The barrier island beaches are a short drive from the mainland conference hotels. Sunsets over the Gulf are the daily local event, and they draw a genuine crowd to the pier.
St Pete-Clearwater International (PIE) is the closest airport at around twenty minutes by road, though Tampa International (TPA) offers far more routes and sits roughly 35 minutes away. Public transit exists but is limited, so most visitors rely on rideshare or a rental car. Clearwater Beach. A wide stretch of fine white sand consistently rated among the best in the country, with a pier and a nightly sunset market of buskers and craft stalls. December water is cool but swimmable for some. Allow an afternoon, arriving before sunset for the market.

Caladesi Island State Park. An undeveloped barrier island reachable only by ferry from Honeymoon Island, with a three-mile nature trail and empty beaches. The isolation is the appeal. Half a day including the crossing, and ferry schedules are limited so check departure times.
Dunedin. A small waterfront town just north with a walkable main street, several long-established craft breweries and the Pinellas Trail running through it. A relaxed alternative to the beach strip. Two to three hours, ideally in the late afternoon.
Which airport is best?
Tampa International (TPA) has the widest route network and is around 35 minutes away. St Pete-Clearwater (PIE) is closer but serves fewer destinations.
Do I need a car?
It helps considerably. Public transport is sparse, and while rideshare is available, a rental gives much more flexibility for reaching the state parks.
What is the weather like in early December?
Warm and dry, with daytime highs around 24 degrees Celsius and cool evenings. It is one of the most pleasant months on the Gulf coast.
