AWS Community Day Italy is an annual community-organised cloud conference held in Rome, part of the global network of AWS Community Days run by user groups rather than by Amazon itself. That independence shapes the programme substantially. Organisers are direct about what they want: community stories, real experiences and lessons learned in the field. The emphasis falls on what practitioners actually encountered running AWS workloads — including what went wrong — rather than reference architectures presented in ideal conditions. Content is delivered largely in Italian, serving a national cloud community that has limited access to technical material in its own language. The programme accepts both conference talks and chalk talks, the latter a more interactive whiteboard-driven format, covering core AWS services, artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads, container platforms, serverless architecture and DevOps practice. The Rome location and community pricing keep the event accessible to engineers across Italy. For cloud architects, developers and platform engineers working on AWS in the Italian market, this is the principal annual community gathering.

Rome in early October holds onto warmth without the summer crush, with days often in the low to mid twenties Celsius and evenings comfortable outdoors. Cloud community events here typically gather in the business districts east of the centre rather than the historic core, which keeps venues accessible by metro while leaving the ancient city a short ride away. Autumn light on travertine is reason enough to extend the trip by a day.
Fiumicino (FCO) is the main airport, with the Leonardo Express train reaching Roma Termini in about thirty-two minutes. Ciampino (CIA) serves low-cost carriers and connects by bus to Termini in roughly forty minutes. From Termini, metro lines A and B cover most of the city. Taxis from Fiumicino to the centre operate on a fixed fare, which avoids meter disputes.

Italian networks handle the city well, though signal drops inside the deeper metro sections. An eSIM activated ahead of arrival is the least troublesome option for visitors from outside the EU. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Colosseum and Roman Forum. A single ticket covers the Colosseum, Forum, and Palatine Hill, and timed entry is now compulsory. Three hours is a realistic minimum for all three. Metro line B stops directly outside. Booking several days ahead is essential in October, when queues remain long despite the season. Tickets on Tiqets →
Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel. The museum route runs roughly two kilometres and ends at the Sistine Chapel, taking three hours at a steady pace. Early entry slots before the general opening are considerably calmer. The nearest metro is Ottaviano on line A, a ten-minute walk from the entrance on Viale Vaticano. Tickets on Tiqets →
Trastevere in the evening. Across the Tiber from the historic centre, this quarter of narrow lanes and small piazzas is where Romans eat late. Santa Maria in Trastevere is worth stepping into before dinner. Tram 8 runs from Largo Argentina. Allow an unstructured evening rather than a fixed itinerary.
Appian Way and the catacombs. The ancient road runs southeast from the city and is closed to most traffic on Sundays, making it excellent for walking or cycling. Several catacomb complexes along it offer guided underground tours of about forty minutes. Half a day covers a stretch of road and one catacomb comfortably. Tickets on Go City →
How long does the train from Fiumicino take?
The Leonardo Express reaches Roma Termini in about thirty-two minutes and runs every fifteen to thirty minutes through the day.
Is a car useful in Rome?
No. The historic centre restricts traffic heavily, parking is scarce, and metro, tram, and walking cover the city better.
How busy is Rome in October?
Quieter than summer but still substantial. Major sites require advance timed tickets even in autumn.
