Founded in 2012, BSides Seattle has grown into one of the established community security conferences in the Pacific Northwest. The 2027 edition takes place on 5 and 6 March 2027 and continues the Security BSides tradition of an open, practitioner-led event covering information security, offensive research, defence and the everyday realities of protecting organisations. Despite the name, the conference is held in Redmond, in Microsoft Building 92, a location that places it in the heart of one of the region's largest technology hubs. More than a decade of editions has given the event a loyal following among Seattle-area security engineers, incident responders, analysts and students, and the two-day schedule allows a broader programme than a single-day BSides typically offers. Attendees can expect community-submitted talks, informal hallway conversations and the chance to meet peers working on similar problems across companies of every size. For newcomers, it is an approachable entry point to the field; for veterans, it is a reliable annual reunion. As a long-standing cybersecurity conference near Seattle in 2027, BSides Seattle remains a key meeting point for the Northwest security community and the people trying to join it.

BSides Seattle takes place in Redmond in early March, deep in the Pacific Northwest's long wet season, with cool, grey days around 5 to 12 degrees Celsius and frequent light rain. Redmond, on the Eastside across Lake Washington from Seattle, is closely associated with the technology industry and also styles itself as the bicycle capital of the Northwest. The surrounding area mixes office campuses with parks, trails and easy access to foothills, wineries and waterfalls.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA) lies about 35 km southwest of Redmond, typically 30 to 50 minutes by car depending on traffic. Ride-hailing and rental cars are the most common options. Sound Transit's East Link light rail now serves parts of the Eastside, including Redmond, though connections vary. Driving remains the most flexible way to explore nearby attractions, and the Seattle-area road network is straightforward to navigate outside rush hour, when bridge crossings slow down considerably.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Kiwitaxi. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.

Mobile coverage across the Seattle area is excellent, but international roaming can be expensive. An eSIM provides easy access to maps and transit information. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Marymoor Park. A large park on the edge of Redmond with trails, sports fields, a climbing structure and one of the largest off-leash dog areas in the region. It is ideal for a walk between conference days. Allow an hour or two, and bring waterproof shoes, as the paths are often wet in March.
Woodinville wine country. Just north of Redmond, Woodinville hosts dozens of wineries and tasting rooms in a compact area. Many are open daily and it makes a relaxed option for an afternoon or early evening after sessions. Allow a few hours, check tasting room hours in advance, and arrange transport if tasting.
Snoqualmie Falls. A dramatic waterfall about 30 to 40 minutes east of Redmond, especially powerful in late winter and spring. An upper viewing platform sits beside the parking area, and a steep trail leads to the river below. Allow an hour or two plus travel time, and expect the lower trail to be wet.
Museum of Flight. Located south of Seattle, this museum showcases aircraft, spacecraft and aviation history. It is popular with engineers and technology enthusiasts, and the collection is large enough to fill a rainy day. Allow three to four hours, and check opening hours before visiting.
