CERN PGDay is a single-day PostgreSQL community conference co-organised by CERN and SwissPUG for users and developers across western Switzerland and the neighbouring French border regions. The programme is a single track of seven English-language sessions followed by a social event at CERN. The 2027 edition takes place on 12 February in Geneva.

CERN PGDay puts a PostgreSQL crowd on the CERN campus at Meyrin in mid-February, on the outskirts of Geneva right against the French border. February here is properly wintry, with the Jura ridge and the Alps both under snow and Lake Geneva grey and still. The draw is the setting as much as the schedule: few conferences are held inside a particle physics laboratory.
Geneva Airport (GVA) is unusually close to the city at around 4 km, and arriving passengers can collect a free short-duration public transport ticket in the baggage hall. Tram 18 runs from the city out to the CERN terminus in roughly 20 minutes, which is the simplest way to reach the campus. Hotels issue a Geneva Transport Card covering local transit for the length of your stay.

Swiss mobile coverage is excellent, but note that the CERN site straddles the French border and phones can silently roam onto French networks. An eSIM with regional European coverage avoids an unpleasant bill. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
CERN Science Gateway. The laboratory's public science centre at Meyrin, with exhibitions on particle physics, a genuine stretch of decommissioned accelerator, and hands-on labs. Entry is free but popular sessions need booking. Two to three hours, and it sits directly beside the conference campus, making it the obvious use of a spare morning.
Old Town and Saint Pierre Cathedral. Geneva's hillside old quarter is a short tram ride from the centre, with the cathedral tower giving a view over the lake and rooftops. The archaeological site beneath the cathedral is the more interesting half. Around two hours, and the narrow streets are sheltered enough to enjoy in February.
Jet d'Eau. The 140-metre lake fountain is Geneva's emblem and runs through winter, weather permitting, visible from most of the waterfront. It is a fifteen-minute stop rather than a destination, best combined with a walk along the Quai du Mont-Blanc. Expect spray and wind on the pier.
Mont Saleve cable car. Just across the French border, the cable car climbs to a ridge with a full panorama over Geneva, the lake and toward Mont Blanc in clear conditions. Bring your passport, since you are crossing into France. Half a day, and check the winter operating schedule before setting out.

CERN sits partly in France, and some accommodation or excursions may put you across the border. Carry your passport and check that your visa or permit covers both Switzerland and France.
