FOSDEM PGDay 2027 is a PostgreSQL conference organised by PostgreSQL Europe as an extension of the PostgreSQL community's activities around FOSDEM, the free and open source software gathering held in Brussels each winter. The event covers all aspects of PostgreSQL, making it relevant to database administrators, application developers, contributors and anyone running the open source database in production. The 2027 edition takes place on 28 and 29 January at the Brussels Marriott Hotel Grand Place, in the centre of the Belgian capital and just ahead of the FOSDEM weekend. This timing allows PostgreSQL users and contributors travelling to Brussels to combine a dedicated database programme with the broader open source event. The programme is shaped through a public call for papers, so the talks reflect topics put forward by the community itself. Because the scope covers the whole PostgreSQL ecosystem, sessions can range from internals and administration to performance and application development, alongside informal conversations with developers and users from across Europe. For the European PostgreSQL community, this database conference in Brussels is a well-established way to open the conference year and to meet the people who build and support the world's most popular open source relational database.

FOSDEM PGDay is the PostgreSQL community's warm-up for the FOSDEM weekend, so late January in Brussels fills with open-source developers from across Europe. The weather is typically cold, grey and damp, rarely far from freezing, with early sunsets. That suits the city's strengths: wood-panelled cafes, Belgian beer culture and indoor museums. Many attendees stay on for FOSDEM at the Université libre de Bruxelles, making this one of the busiest open-source weeks of the European year.
Brussels Airport (BRU) at Zaventem is linked to the city's main stations by frequent trains in around 15 to 25 minutes. Brussels South Charleroi (CRL), used by budget airlines, is about an hour away by shuttle coach. Eurostar connects Brussels-Midi with London in roughly two hours, and high-speed trains reach Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne in under two to three hours. Metro, tram and buses cover the city.

Belgium is part of the EU roaming area, so many European attendees can use their normal plans. Visitors from elsewhere will find an eSIM a simple way to stay online between PGDay and FOSDEM. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Horta Museum, Saint-Gilles. The former home and studio of Art Nouveau architect Victor Horta, with flowing ironwork, stained glass and carefully designed light. It is small and timed-entry, so book in advance. Allow an hour, and combine it with a walk through the surrounding Saint-Gilles streets, which contain many Art Nouveau facades.
Belgian Comic Strip Center. Set in a Horta-designed former textile warehouse, this museum celebrates Belgium's comic tradition, from Tintin to contemporary graphic novels. It is a cosy indoor stop on a grey afternoon. Allow ninety minutes, and look out for comic murals painted on buildings around the city centre. Tickets on Tiqets →
Place du Jeu de Balle flea market. In the Marolles quarter, this open-air flea market runs every morning and is busiest at weekends. It offers a gritty, local side of Brussels far from the polished Grand-Place. Arrive early, ideally before 10am, and spend an hour browsing before warming up in a nearby cafe.
How do I get from the airport to the city centre?
Direct trains run frequently from Brussels Airport to Brussels-Nord, Central and Midi, taking about 15 to 25 minutes. Taxis are also available but cost considerably more.
Is FOSDEM right after PGDay?
Yes, PGDay is scheduled just before the main FOSDEM weekend, so many attendees plan a stay covering both events. Book accommodation early, as the city fills up.
