Community Over Code Sydney arrives in mid-November, late spring in the southern hemisphere, when jacaranda trees are flowering purple across the city and the harbour beaches are warm enough for a swim. Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) is only about eight kilometres south of the centre. The Airport Link train runs from both the international and domestic terminals to Central station in roughly 10 to 15 minutes, continuing around the City Circle to stops such as Town Hall, Wynyard and Circular Quay. The Rocks and the Harbour Bridge. Sydney's oldest neighbourhood sits beneath the southern end of the bridge, with sandstone lanes, old pubs and weekend markets. The bridge's pedestrian walkway is free and gives broad harbour views; the Pylon Lookout adds height for a small fee. An hour or two in the late afternoon suits the light.
Manly by ferry. The public ferry from Circular Quay to Manly is one of the great inexpensive harbour cruises, taking around 30 minutes each way past the Opera House and the Heads. On arrival, a short pedestrian street leads to a long surf beach. Half a day is ample, and November water temperatures are comfortable for a swim.
Bondi to Coogee coastal walk. This clifftop path runs for about six kilometres between two famous beaches, passing Tamarama, Bronte and Clovelly, with ocean pools and cafes along the route. It takes around two hours at an easy pace. Starting early avoids the strongest sun; shade is limited, so a hat and sunscreen are essential in late spring.
