Data Summit occupies two days in mid-May, which is close to the ideal window for Boston: the long winter is finally over, the Charles River fills with rowers, and the city's parks are in full leaf before the summer humidity arrives. It is a compact, low-rise city by American standards, and the historic core sits within walking distance of the harbour, so a two-day conference leaves genuine room for exploring on foot.
Logan International (BOS) is unusually close, about five kilometres from downtown across the harbour. The Silver Line bus is free from the airport terminals and runs into South Station in around 20 minutes. The Blue Line via a shuttle bus is the alternative. Taxis and ride-hailing take 15 to 30 minutes through the tunnels. A CharlieCard covers the subway, known locally as the T.

Boston has dense coverage and the T has been steadily adding platform and tunnel service, so staying online across the city is rarely an issue. Visitors from outside the US should sort an eSIM before arrival, since American roaming rates on foreign plans remain among the least forgiving anywhere. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
The Freedom Trail. A four-kilometre red brick line through the colonial and revolutionary sites, from Boston Common to the Bunker Hill Monument. Walking it end to end takes about three hours without stops. Mid-May weather suits it well; start early to reach the North End for lunch. Tickets on Go City →
Boston Public Library, Copley Square. The McKim building is a Renaissance-revival landmark with the Bates Hall reading room and the Sargent murals upstairs. Free to enter and free guided tours run daily. An hour is enough, and the courtyard is a quiet place to sit between sessions.
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. A Venetian-style palazzo built around a glass-roofed courtyard, hung exactly as its founder left it, with the empty frames from the 1990 theft still on the walls. Ninety minutes. Timed tickets are worth booking, as capacity is genuinely limited. Tickets on Tiqets →
Fenway Park. The oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball, and mid-May is mid-season, so a game is a real option rather than just a tour. Tours run year-round and last about an hour. If you go to a game, take the Green Line rather than driving.
What is the cheapest way in from Logan Airport?
The Silver Line bus is free from the airport terminals and reaches South Station in about twenty minutes, connecting to the wider subway network from there.
What is the weather like in mid-May?
Pleasantly mild, typically 12 to 21 degrees Celsius, though evenings by the harbour stay cool. Spring in Boston can still deliver a wet day, so pack accordingly.
Is a car worth having?
No. Boston's street layout is famously irregular and parking is costly. The T and walking cover the centre, Back Bay and the Fenway area comfortably.
