Dallas in late September is still hot — regularly near thirty degrees — but the worst of the Texas summer has broken and evenings become usable again. The city sprawls, though the area that matters for a conference visit is the downtown core plus the neighbourhoods immediately around it, all connected by DART light rail. Uptown, Deep Ellum and the Design District each sit within a short ride and give very different evening options.
Dallas Fort Worth International (DFW) is the major hub, thirty to forty minutes northwest by road, and DART's Orange Line runs from Terminal A to downtown in about fifty minutes. Dallas Love Field (DAL) is closer at fifteen minutes and serves domestic routes, connecting to rail via a shuttle to Inwood station. Amtrak and the TRE commuter line use Union Station downtown.

Deep Ellum. Immediately east of downtown, this former warehouse district holds the city's live music venues, murals and a concentration of independent bars and restaurants. It is the natural after-hours destination. Walking there from downtown is feasible in daylight; a short ride is more sensible at night.
Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. On the shore of White Rock Lake about twenty minutes east, with sixty-six acres of gardens and a large autumn pumpkin display running through September and October. Mornings are cooler and far more comfortable than afternoons. Allow two hours plus travel; parking must be reserved with the ticket.
Can I manage without a car?
Downtown, Deep Ellum and Uptown are covered by DART light rail and the free D-Link and streetcar services. Anything further out is much easier with a ride-hail or rental.
How hot will it be?
Late September highs commonly sit between twenty-eight and thirty-two degrees Celsius with moderate humidity. Evenings cool into the low twenties, which makes outdoor dining pleasant.
Which airport is better?
