Lalbagh Botanical Garden. A 240-acre botanical garden dating from the eighteenth century, with a Victorian glass house modelled on the Crystal Palace and a rocky outcrop far older than the city. Early morning is when locals use it. Ninety minutes, in the south of the centre.
Cubbon Park and the State Central Library. A large green space in the civic core surrounded by red-brick colonial-era government buildings, with the striking red library at its centre. Roads through the park close to traffic on some days. An hour on foot.
Bangalore Palace. A nineteenth-century residence built in a Tudor revival style, with an audio tour through the interiors and grounds. The contrast with the surrounding modern city is the interest. Around ninety minutes; note that photography carries a separate charge. Tickets on Klook →
Vidhana Soudha. The vast granite seat of the state legislature, an emblem of post-independence civic architecture, illuminated on Sunday evenings and public holidays. The interior is not generally open, so this is an exterior visit of thirty minutes, best combined with Cubbon Park next door.
How long is the airport transfer?
Between one and two hours depending on traffic and destination district. Allow generously for a departure, particularly during the evening peak.
What is the weather like in late November?
Mild, with daytime highs around twenty-six degrees Celsius and cool evenings near sixteen. The north-east monsoon can bring occasional showers.
