Bangalore in late April is at its hottest, in the weeks before the monsoon breaks and the temperature drops. At roughly nine hundred metres of elevation the evenings still cool off properly. A developer summit here sits in the centre of India's software industry, where the tree-lined colonial-era roads of the central districts give way to the glass campuses of Whitefield and Electronic City further out.
Kempegowda International (BLR) lies about forty kilometres north of the centre, which means anything from sixty to a hundred and twenty minutes by road depending on traffic. Vayu Vajra airport coaches run to the main districts and are considerably cheaper than taxis. Prebooked cabs and app-based rideshare are the standard choice. Metro lines cover parts of the city but not the airport corridor directly.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Kiwitaxi. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Indian mobile data is fast and inexpensive, but local prepaid SIMs require passport and visa documentation and can take hours to activate. An eSIM purchased before travel removes that step and works from the terminal. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Lalbagh Botanical Garden. Two hundred and forty acres laid out in the eighteenth century around a glasshouse modelled on Crystal Palace, with a rock outcrop dated to some three billion years. Go at dawn when the city walks here and the heat is still bearable. Ninety minutes. Tickets on Klook →
Bangalore Palace. A nineteenth-century residence built in a Tudor revival style that looks transplanted from Britain, with fortified towers and heavy interior woodwork. Audio-guided access covers the main rooms. It contrasts sharply with the tech city outside its walls. Allow an hour and a half. Tickets on Klook →
Cubbon Park and the central district. Three hundred acres of green in the middle of the city, surrounded by the high court, state library and museum buildings in red colonial masonry. Some roads close to traffic on Sundays. It is the easiest walkable hour available near the central hotels.
Commercial Street and Russell Market. A dense retail quarter of fabric shops, tailors and street food, best approached with no particular list. Russell Market nearby has operated since 1927 and handles produce, flowers and meat. Evening is livelier but hotter. Two hours, and bargaining is expected.
How long does the airport transfer take?
Plan on ninety minutes to the central districts and allow more at peak times. The distance is forty kilometres and traffic is the deciding factor.
What is the weather like in late April?
Hot and dry, easing in the evenings thanks to the elevation. Pre-monsoon thunderstorms are possible towards the end of the month.
Is a local SIM easy to obtain?
It requires passport and visa paperwork and often several hours to activate. Most short-stay visitors find an eSIM far quicker.
