For a three-day infrastructure conference, San Francisco delivers its best weather of the year in September, when the summer fog pattern finally breaks. The city is small — seven miles square — so a venue anywhere between SoMa and the northern waterfront keeps hills, bay views and neighbourhood dining within a short ride, and the practical constraint is elevation rather than distance.
SFO is the main gateway, with BART trains running into the city centre in about half an hour. Caltrain serves attendees staying down the Peninsula, and within the city Muni buses climb the hills that walking routes make punishing.
