ICISSP 2027, the International Conference on Information Systems Security and Privacy, is an academic conference sponsored by INSTICC that brings together researchers and practitioners working on the technical, organisational and social dimensions of information security and privacy. Its call for papers is organised around three areas: management and operations, applications and services, and technologies and foundations. The 2027 edition is listed for Setúbal, Portugal, from 22 to 24 February, and is held in conjunction with ICAART, ICORES and ICPRAM, so a single ICISSP registration also gives non-speaking access to the sessions of these co-located conferences on agents and artificial intelligence, operations research and pattern recognition. Submissions are accepted as regular or position papers in two stages, plus a later abstracts track. Presented papers are published in the SCITEPRESS Digital Library and submitted for evaluation by major indexing services, with selected extended papers considered for a Springer book and a journal special issue. Beyond paper sessions, the programme includes keynote lectures, workshops, special sessions, tutorials and demos. For the security and privacy research community, this information security conference in Portugal in 2027 offers a peer-reviewed forum with useful cross-disciplinary exposure.

Setúbal in late February sits at the mouth of the Sado estuary, south of Lisbon across the Tagus, in the mild damp end of a Portuguese winter with afternoons around 15C. It is a working fishing and port city rather than a resort, backed by the Arrábida hills and facing a peninsula of open beach. For a security and privacy conference it offers a quieter setting than the capital, an hour away.
Lisbon Airport (LIS) is the gateway, roughly 45-60 minutes from Setúbal by road across one of the Tagus bridges. Frequent buses run from Lisbon's Sete Rios and Praça de Espanha terminals, and suburban trains connect via Barreiro or the Fertagus line across the 25 de Abril bridge. Within Setúbal itself, the centre is comfortably walkable.

Hotel and university Wi-Fi in Setúbal is adequate, though speeds fall short of Lisbon's. Mobile coverage along the estuary and in the Arrábida hills is patchy in places. A pre-arranged eSIM keeps maps working on the coastal roads. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Serra da Arrábida. A limestone range dropping directly into the sea west of the city, with white cliffs, protected scrubland and small coves such as Portinho da Arrábida. February is green, empty and cool. Half a day by car or tour; the coastal road is narrow and slow but spectacular. Tickets on Tiqets →
Convento de Jesus. A late fifteenth-century church whose twisted stone columns are the earliest surviving example of the Manueline style, predating Lisbon's grander examples. The attached museum holds regional painting. Around an hour, and it sits in the centre of the old town.
Sado estuary dolphin watching. A resident population of bottlenose dolphins lives in the estuary, and licensed boat trips leave from Setúbal's marina year-round. Winter sightings are good though seas can be choppy. Allow three hours, and book with an operator following approved wildlife distances.
Troia peninsula. A short ferry crossing from Setúbal reaches a long sand spit with Roman fish-salting ruins at its northern end and empty winter beaches beyond. The crossing itself gives the best view back to the Arrábida. Half a day including the ferry, which runs regularly.
How do I reach Setúbal from Lisbon?
Buses and suburban trains run frequently from central Lisbon, taking around 45-60 minutes; by car it is a similar time across the Tagus bridges.
What is the weather like in February?
Mild and often wet Atlantic winter, with afternoons around 15C. A rain jacket is more useful than heavy layers.
Is Setúbal walkable?
The old town, waterfront and market area are easily covered on foot; the Arrábida hills and Troia need a car or ferry.
