Nordic PGDay gathers the region's PostgreSQL community in Stockholm for a single day in mid-March, when Scandinavian light is returning fast after the long winter and the days have already stretched past twelve hours. The city is built across fourteen islands, so almost every walk between venues involves water and a bridge. Expect lingering cold and possibly ice, offset by the clearest light of the year.
Arlanda (ARN) is the main airport, 40 km north, with the Arlanda Express reaching Stockholm Central in about 20 minutes and commuter trains taking longer for less. Bromma (BMA) is closer for some domestic and short-haul routes, and Skavsta (NYO) is roughly 100 km away with coach connections. The SL network of metro, bus and commuter rail covers the city, paid by contactless card or app.

Sweden is close to cashless, and card payment is expected almost everywhere including small kiosks. Vasa Museum. A seventeenth-century warship that sank on her maiden voyage, raised almost intact in 1961 and displayed over several levels in a purpose-built hall on Djurgarden. Gamla Stan. The old town occupies its own island, a dense grid of medieval lanes and ochre facades around the Royal Palace and Stortorget square. March keeps the crowds thin enough to walk it properly. An hour or two on foot, and the narrow streets are sheltered from the wind off the water.
Fotografiska. A photography museum in a converted customs house on the Sodermalm waterfront, running large temporary exhibitions rather than a permanent collection. Stockholm City Hall. The brick tower on Kungsholmen where the Nobel banquet is held, visitable by guided tour through the Blue Hall and the gold-mosaic Golden Hall. Tours run in English several times daily and cannot be joined independently. About an hour, with tower access limited to the warmer months.
