PG DATA is a community-driven PostgreSQL and data conference based in Chicago, with registration and policy pages pointing to the Prairie Postgres community group. Described as a new series centred on education, developer community and academic outreach, it is aimed at developers, DBAs, data engineers, architects and open-source enthusiasts who work with PostgreSQL day to day. The 2027 edition of this PostgreSQL conference in Chicago runs on 11 and 12 June at the UIC Student Center East as an in-person gathering. Its call for proposals opened in September 2026 and closes in January 2027, with the schedule due in March. The organisers emphasise affordable access and offer a Midwest travel grant with a diversity, equity and inclusion focus, which sets the event apart from larger commercial database shows. Sessions are expected to range from explorations of new PostgreSQL features to operational guidance, along with discussion of how open-source and commercial interests interact around the project. Networking between practitioners, students and academics is a stated goal, and volunteer roles are open. For the Midwest Postgres community, the conference offers a regional meeting point that keeps learning practical and accessible.

PG DATA meets over two June days at UIC Student Center East, which puts a PostgreSQL and data engineering crowd on Chicago's Near West Side rather than in the Loop. That is a better base than it sounds: Greektown, Little Italy and Pilsen are all within reach, and the Blue Line runs straight from campus to both downtown and the airport. June in Chicago is warm, green and reliably pleasant before the August heat arrives.
O'Hare (ORD) connects to the city on the CTA Blue Line, which stops at UIC-Halsted beside the campus after roughly 45 minutes. Midway (MDW) links to the Loop on the Orange Line in about 25 minutes. Union Station handles Amtrak services from across the country. The CTA train and bus network takes contactless cards and covers the city densely; nothing here requires a rental car.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Welcome Pickups. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.

Campus, hotel and cafe Wi-Fi are all dependable and the CTA has coverage in most subway sections. International visitors should arrange an eSIM before arrival rather than paying roaming rates. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
National Museum of Mexican Art. In Pilsen, a short ride south of the UIC campus, holding one of the largest Mexican art collections in the United States and free to enter. The surrounding neighbourhood has the murals and the food to match. Ninety minutes for the museum, longer if you eat on 18th Street.
Art Institute of Chicago. On Michigan Avenue at the edge of Grant Park, with the Impressionist holdings and American paintings including Nighthawks and American Gothic. It is fifteen minutes from campus on the Blue Line plus a short walk. Three hours covers the main wings; it is far larger than one visit allows. Tickets on Go City →
Chicago Architecture Center river cruise. A ninety-minute boat tour along the Chicago River with a trained docent explaining the skyline building by building, which is the single best way to understand the city. June weather makes the open upper deck genuinely enjoyable. Book ahead, since sailings fill quickly in summer. Tickets on Go City →
Millennium Park. The lakefront park holding Cloud Gate, the Pritzker Pavilion and the Crown Fountain, all free and open daily. June brings a programme of free evening concerts at the pavilion. An hour to walk through, more if a performance is scheduled while you are in town.
How do I reach UIC from O'Hare?
Take the CTA Blue Line directly to UIC-Halsted, roughly 45 minutes with no transfer. It is far cheaper than a taxi and usually faster in traffic.
What is the weather like in mid-June?
Warm and humid, generally in the mid-twenties Celsius, with occasional thunderstorms. Lakefront breezes make the shore noticeably cooler than inland.
Is a car necessary?
No. The CTA covers the city thoroughly and downtown parking is expensive. Trains from campus reach the Loop, the museums and both airports directly.
