redacteCON is Western Colorado's only cybersecurity conference, held for a single day at the Colorado Mesa University Ballroom in Grand Junction. Grand Junction sits in western Colorado where the Gunnison joins the Colorado River, ringed by red sandstone mesas and the Book Cliffs. This is not a conference city in the usual sense, and that is the appeal: a one-day event here is bracketed by desert canyon country and an established wine valley, with late September delivering warm days, cold nights and the start of the grape harvest.
Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) is barely ten minutes from downtown, with connections through Denver, Salt Lake City, Dallas and Phoenix. Driving from Denver takes around four hours on Interstate 70 through the mountains, a scenic but long haul. Amtrak's California Zephyr also stops in the city. Colorado National Monument. A canyon and monolith landscape immediately west of the city, crossed by the twenty-three mile Rim Rock Drive with overlooks every few minutes. Sunrise and sunset are dramatically better than midday; the drive alone takes about ninety minutes with stops.
Palisade wine country. Fifteen minutes east, an irrigated valley of vineyards, peach orchards and small tasting rooms below the Book Cliffs. Late September is harvest season; a designated driver or a booked tour is necessary, and an afternoon covers three or four wineries.
