Singapore Expo sits out east near Changi rather than in the central business district, which turns out to be an advantage: delegates land and are at the halls within minutes. Late November falls in the northeast monsoon, so expect around 31C, high humidity and heavy but short afternoon downpours. Hawker centres. Maxwell Food Centre and Lau Pa Sat are the two easiest introductions to Singapore's hawker culture, a UNESCO-listed tradition. Stalls are cheap, queues signal quality, and dinner rarely takes more than 40 minutes. Lau Pa Sat's satay street opens in the evening when the road closes.

East Coast Park. A long stretch of beachfront park between Expo and the city, good for an early-morning run or a seafood dinner at the East Coast Lagoon Food Village. Closest of the major green spaces to the Expo hotels, about 15 minutes by taxi.
