Berlin in early October has turned properly autumnal, with cool mornings and the city's parks going gold. Apple platform developers gathering here land in a capital whose mobile scene sits largely in Mitte, close to Museum Island and the government quarter. Distances in central Berlin are longer than they look on a map, but the U-Bahn and S-Bahn make short work of them, and hotel prices remain low for a capital of this size.
Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) is around twenty-five kilometres southeast. The FEX express train reaches Hauptbahnhof in roughly thirty minutes, while S-Bahn lines S9 and S45 serve the same route more slowly with more stops. Regional RE trains are also fast. A single AB-zone ticket does not cover the airport; buy an ABC ticket to travel in from BER without a penalty fare.

Museum Island. Five museums on a Spree island, of which the Pergamon has been partly closed for long-running renovation. Reichstag dome. Norman Foster's glass dome above the parliament chamber is free but requires registration well in advance with passport details. The spiral ramp and audio guide take about forty-five minutes. Evening slots give views over a lit government quarter and are easier to secure than midday ones.
East Side Gallery. The longest surviving stretch of the Berlin Wall, painted by artists in 1990 and running 1.3 kilometres along the Spree in Friedrichshain. Walking the full length takes about forty minutes. Warschauer Straße station sits at the eastern end, making it an easy detour on the S-Bahn.
Tempelhofer Feld. A decommissioned airport whose runways are now a vast public park, open to cyclists, skaters, and walkers. The scale is the attraction: two kilometres of open tarmac inside the city. An hour or two, best on a clear afternoon. U-Bahn stations ring the perimeter on several sides.
