Stockholm in mid-October is cold and dark early, with sunset around six and the archipelago water already wintry. Södermalm, the southern island where much of the city's developer community works, is built on a height with views north over the old town. Sweden's API and integration scene is concentrated here and in Kista, and the unstructured format of an unconference suits a city where cafe culture runs long into the afternoon.
Arlanda (ARN) is the main airport, with the Arlanda Express train reaching T-Centralen in about eighteen to twenty minutes. Commuter trains and airport coaches are slower but cheaper. Bromma (BMA) is closer and handles domestic flights. Skavsta (NYO) is a distant low-cost alternative around eighty minutes away by bus. The Tunnelbana metro covers the city thoroughly from T-Centralen.

Swedish networks are fast and coverage is comprehensive, including underground. Sweden is close to cashless, so a working data connection matters more here than in most places; an eSIM is the simplest way to guarantee it. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Fotografiska. A contemporary photography museum in a converted customs house on Södermalm's waterfront, with long opening hours that suit post-conference visits. Two hours covers the rotating exhibitions. The top-floor cafe has one of the better views back across the water to Djurgården and the old town. Tickets on Tiqets →
Vasa Museum. A near-intact seventeenth-century warship raised from the harbour in 1961, housed in a purpose-built hall on Djurgården. Two hours including the film and upper galleries. It is the single most visited museum in Scandinavia, so early or late slots are noticeably calmer than midday. Tickets on Tiqets →
Monteliusvägen. A narrow clifftop path along Södermalm's northern edge, giving the best free view over Riddarfjärden, the City Hall, and Gamla Stan. Thirty minutes to walk its length. In October the low afternoon sun over the water is the reason to time it before dusk rather than after.
Skansen. An open-air museum of relocated historic Swedish buildings on Djurgården, with a Nordic zoo attached. Three hours minimum given the hillside site. Autumn visits are quiet and the hilltop gives a wide view across the city, though warm clothing matters as most of it is outdoors. Tickets on Go City →
How fast is the train from Arlanda?
The Arlanda Express reaches T-Centralen in about eighteen to twenty minutes; commuter trains and coaches take longer but cost less.
Do I need cash in Stockholm?
Rarely. Sweden is close to fully cashless and cards are accepted almost everywhere, including small kiosks and public transport.
How cold is mid-October?
Around five to eleven degrees Celsius with wind off the water and early darkness. A proper coat, hat, and waterproof shoes are sensible.
