Trastevere. Across the Tiber, a district of narrow cobbled lanes and ivy-covered facades that becomes the city's dinner quarter after dark. Santa Maria in Trastevere's mosaics are worth ten minutes in daylight first. An evening rather than a scheduled visit.
Villa Borghese and the Galleria. A large park above the Spanish Steps holding the Galleria Borghese, whose Bernini sculptures are the finest in the city.
