The Metro A line connects Long Beach to downtown Los Angeles in around an hour. Within the waterfront district, walking suffices.

Coverage along the Los Angeles basin is dense on all major carriers. RMS Queen Mary. A 1936 ocean liner permanently moored across the harbour, now hotel and museum, with engine rooms and original art deco interiors open to visitors. Shoreline and Belmont Shore. A paved beach path running several miles east from the convention district to a residential neighbourhood of low-key restaurants along Second Street. Cycling or skating the route is the local habit. Morning fog usually lifts by noon. Two hours.

Naples canals. A small residential island district of narrow canals and footbridges laid out in the early twentieth century in imitation of Venice, walkable in a loop. Gondola rides operate. It is fifteen minutes east by car and almost entirely unvisited by conference crowds. An hour.
Which airport is most practical?
Long Beach is closest and quickest through security, but LAX offers far more routes at thirty to sixty minutes by road.
What is June Gloom?
A coastal pattern of morning cloud and cool marine layer that typically burns off by early afternoon. Pack a layer for mornings even in summer.
Is a car needed?
Not for the waterfront district, which is walkable. A car or the Metro A line helps for reaching central Los Angeles.
