BazelCon 2026 is the annual conference for the Bazel build system, hosted by the Bazel community in partnership with the Linux Foundation. It brings together Bazel users, maintainers, contributors and members of the core Bazel team, and is the main venue for discussing the direction of the project and the practice of fast, reproducible builds at scale. The 2026 edition takes place in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, from 13 to 15 October. Tuesday is a dedicated training day, followed by two days of general sessions, a solutions showcase, birds-of-a-feather discussions, lightning talks, an unconference segment and an attendee reception. Highlights announced by the organisers include the Bazel State of the Union and a live question-and-answer session with the Bazel team. Attendees gain detailed guidance on migrating to and operating Bazel, remote execution and caching, rules for specific languages and the organisational side of monorepo build engineering, together with direct access to the people who maintain the toolchain. For engineering teams whose build systems have become a bottleneck, BazelCon is where the hard-won experience of large-scale adopters is shared openly.

Amsterdam in mid-October is grey, wet, and considerably quieter than in summer, which suits a build-systems conference where most of the day is spent indoors anyway. The city's technology employers sit largely in the Zuidas business district and along the IJ waterfront north of Centraal, both a short train or ferry ride from the centre. Bicycles remain the fastest way to move between them regardless of the rain.
Schiphol (AMS) connects to Amsterdam Centraal by direct train in fifteen to twenty minutes, with services every few minutes. Trains also run direct to Zuid station for the business district, which is often the better stop. Within the city, trams and metro cover the centre, and free ferries behind Centraal cross to Amsterdam Noord. An OV-chipkaart or contactless card handles fares.

Dutch mobile coverage is among the best in Europe. Travellers from outside the EU avoid roaming charges entirely with an eSIM activated before departure. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Rijksmuseum. The national museum, holding the Dutch Golden Age collection including Rembrandt's Night Watch. Two to three hours covers the highlights across the main floors. Timed tickets are required and should be booked in advance. Late afternoon slots in October are the least crowded of the day. Tickets on Tiqets →
NDSM Wharf. A former shipyard in Amsterdam Noord, reached by free ferry from behind Centraal in about fifteen minutes. Street art, converted industrial halls, and studios fill the site. Two hours including the crossing. It is the clearest example of how the city's industrial edges have been repurposed.
Anne Frank House. The canal-side building where the Frank family hid, preserved as a museum with a strictly timed entry system. Tickets are released on a schedule and sell out quickly, so book the moment they become available. Ninety minutes for the visit. Photography is not permitted inside.
Jordaan and the western canals. A district of narrow streets, small galleries, and brown cafes west of the centre, best experienced without an itinerary. Two hours of walking covers the main canals and the Noordermarkt. Rain rarely spoils it; the cafes exist precisely for that eventuality. Tickets on Go City →
How long is the train from Schiphol?
Fifteen to twenty minutes to Amsterdam Centraal, with frequent departures. Trains also run direct to Amsterdam Zuid.
Should I cycle in Amsterdam?
It is the fastest way around, but traffic rules and tram tracks catch out newcomers. Walking and trams are fine alternatives in October rain.
What is the weather like in mid-October?
Cool and wet, roughly ten to fifteen degrees Celsius, with wind off the water. A waterproof jacket beats an umbrella.
