Early June is arguably the best window Paris offers: long evenings running past ten, temperatures in the low twenties, and the terraces full before the August exodus empties the city. A control-systems and robotics conference running hybrid means some attendees will join remotely, but those on the ground get a walkable capital where the distance between a morning session and an afternoon museum is usually a single metro line.
Charles de Gaulle (CDG) connects to the centre via RER B in about thirty-five minutes, while Orly (ORY) links through the Orlyval shuttle or the newer metro line 14 extension. Beauvais is far out and best avoided. In the city, fourteen metro lines run frequently and a single ticket covers transfers. Eurostar and TGV services arrive at Gare du Nord and Gare de Lyon respectively.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Welcome Pickups. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Mobile data is fast and cheap across Paris, though the older deep metro lines still have patchy reception between stations. An eSIM loaded before arrival means you can navigate from the moment you clear customs. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Musée des Arts et Métiers. France's museum of industrial design and scientific instruments, holding Foucault's pendulum, early automata and Pascal's calculating machine. An obvious fit for a robotics audience and far quieter than the headline museums. Ninety minutes; the deconsecrated church housing the transport collection is the highlight. Tickets on Tiqets →
Canal Saint-Martin. A tree-lined nineteenth-century canal in the tenth arrondissement with iron footbridges and a working lock system. In June the banks fill with people eating outdoors well into the evening. Walk the towpath north for forty minutes, or watch a boat work through the locks.
Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie. Europe's largest science museum, at Parc de la Villette on the north-eastern edge. Strong on robotics, mathematics and engineering, with a submarine parked outside. Two hours minimum, and easily half a day if the temporary exhibition lands well. Metro line 7 reaches it directly.
Père Lachaise Cemetery. A hillside necropolis in the twentieth arrondissement, cobbled and heavily wooded, holding Chopin, Wilde and Piaf among others. Pleasantly cool on a warm June afternoon and rarely crowded away from the famous graves. Pick up a map at the gate; allow an hour.
Do I need a car in Paris?
No. Parking is scarce and expensive, much of the centre is a restricted low-emission zone, and the metro reaches every arrondissement. Walking plus metro is faster than driving almost everywhere.
What is the weather like in early June?
Mild and pleasant, generally seventeen to twenty-four degrees Celsius with long daylight and occasional short showers. A light jacket for the evenings is usually enough.
Is the hybrid format worth attending in person?
That depends on your goals, but note that in-person attendance is what gives access to the corridor conversations and the Paris venue itself; remote participation covers the presentations only.
