ICARA — the International Conference on Automation, Robotics and Applications — reaches its thirteenth edition in 2027. It is a research conference drawing engineers and academics working on autonomous systems architecture, advanced control algorithms, cognitive robotics, machine vision, human-robot interaction and the cross-industry application of automation technology. The 2027 edition is held over three days in Paris, France, giving European research groups a conveniently located venue while retaining an international submission pool. The programme follows a standard academic structure of reviewed paper sessions and keynote lectures, with the submission deadline falling on the first of October 2026. Participants present current work to a specialist audience, gather feedback ahead of journal submission, and establish the international collaborations that the conference explicitly sets out to facilitate. For doctoral researchers and early-career academics in robotics and automation, ICARA offers a manageable-scale alternative to the field's largest conferences, with correspondingly more discussion time per paper.
ICARA 2027 — International Conference on Automation, Robotics and Applications takes place February 25–27, 2027 in Paris, France.
ICARA 2027 — International Conference on Automation, Robotics and Applications is an in-person event.

Late February in Paris is cold and often grey, with short days and the lowest visitor numbers of the year, which is exactly when the city is most navigable. Museums are quiet, restaurants take walk-ins and the grands boulevards are free of summer crowds. For a robotics and automation conference the setting offers proximity to the engineering grandes écoles and research institutes clustered across the south and east of the city.
Charles de Gaulle (CDG) connects to central Paris by RER B in roughly 35-50 minutes, while Orly (ORY) is served by the Orlyval link and the tram network in around 40 minutes. Beauvais (BVA) is far outside the city and used mainly by low-cost carriers. The Metro is dense, frequent and by far the most efficient way to cross Paris; carnets and contactless payment both work.

Wi-Fi is widely available in Paris hotels, cafés and public spaces, and the Metro has growing coverage. Non-EU visitors face roaming charges that add up quickly over a conference week, so an eSIM bought beforehand is the sensible option. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Musée des Arts et Métiers. France's museum of industrial design and engineering, holding early automata, Foucault's pendulum and centuries of mechanical instruments in a former priory. For a robotics audience it is the most directly relevant collection in the city. Two hours, and it is rarely crowded. Tickets on Tiqets →
Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie. Europe's largest science museum, in Parc de la Villette on the north-eastern edge, with substantial robotics, computing and engineering sections plus a planetarium. It is built for depth rather than a quick visit. Half a day, and it closes on Mondays. Tickets on Tiqets →
Musée d'Orsay. The Beaux-Arts railway station converted into the definitive collection of nineteenth-century French painting, and considerably more manageable than the Louvre in a single visit. February is the quietest season. Two to three hours; timed tickets still save queueing time. Tickets on Go City →
Canal Saint-Martin. A nineteenth-century canal through the tenth arrondissement with iron footbridges, working locks and a corridor of independent shops and cafés along its banks. It shows a working Paris away from the monuments. Ninety minutes on foot, best in the late afternoon.
Which airport is most convenient?
Charles de Gaulle (CDG) via RER B reaches central Paris in 35-50 minutes; Orly is around 40 minutes via Orlyval and tram.
Is the Metro the best way to get around?
Yes — it is dense and frequent, and contactless payment works at the gates. Walking between adjacent arrondissements is also realistic.
What is Paris like in late February?
Cold, often grey and sometimes wet, with short days — but museums and restaurants are at their least crowded all year.
