AIRC — the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Control — is an academic forum bringing together three closely coupled research areas. The 2027 meeting is its eighth edition, and the call for papers spans natural language processing, computer vision, machine learning methods, humanoid and collaborative robotics, control systems and industrial automation. The conference is hosted at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, over three days in early April. The format is a conventional research one: peer-reviewed paper presentations organised into thematic sessions, supported by invited keynote lectures and poster sessions, with submissions closing in November 2026. Attendance is weighted towards academic researchers, doctoral candidates and engineers working in applied research groups. The value for participants lies in presenting work to a specialised audience, receiving detailed technical feedback, and finding collaborators across the AI-robotics boundary where much current progress is happening. For researchers whose work sits between learning and control, this conference offers a well-matched venue.
AIRC 2027 — International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Control takes place April 6–8, 2027 in Tempe, United States.
AIRC 2027 — International Conference on Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Control is an in-person event.

Tempe in April is the Sonoran Desert at its most forgiving: warm, dry days before the summer heat arrives, and evenings that actually invite walking. The city wraps around a large university campus, so the streets near the conference district run to cheap taco counters, coffee houses and bike lanes rather than corporate blocks. Palm-lined Mill Avenue is the social spine, and a man-made lake sits at its northern end.
Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX) is unusually close, roughly ten to fifteen minutes by car. The Valley Metro light rail links the airport, via the free PHX Sky Train shuttle, straight into downtown Tempe in about twenty-five minutes for a couple of dollars. Rideshare is abundant. A rental car is genuinely optional if plans stay within Tempe, Phoenix and Scottsdale.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Kiwitaxi. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.

Coverage across the Phoenix metro is strong on all major networks, and campus-area cafes offer reliable Wi-Fi. Visitors from outside North America usually find an eSIM cheaper and faster than a roaming bundle or an airport SIM counter. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Papago Park and Hole-in-the-Rock. A short drive north, red sandstone buttes rise straight out of flat desert, with a ten-minute scramble up to a wind-carved opening framing the whole valley. Go at sunrise or in the last hour of light; midday sun on bare rock is punishing even in April. Allow ninety minutes.
Desert Botanical Garden. A serious collection of arid-climate plants laid out along looping trails, strongest in April when the cactus flowers open. Interpretive signage covers desert ecology properly rather than decoratively. Two hours is comfortable, and evening opening hours make it an easy option after a full conference day. Tempe Town Lake path. A flat loop of path around the lake immediately north of the university, popular with runners early and rowers through the day. It connects the campus to the light rail and to Mill Avenue's restaurants, so it doubles as a walking route rather than a detour. Thirty to sixty minutes.
Old Town Scottsdale. Fifteen minutes east, a compact grid of galleries, southwestern craft shops and patio restaurants that stays busy into the evening. It is the most walkable dining district in the immediate area and works well for a group meal away from campus. Allow an evening.
Is a rental car necessary?
Not for Tempe itself. Light rail and rideshare cover the airport, downtown and central Phoenix. A car only helps for desert parks and day trips further out.
How hot is Tempe in mid-April?
Warm and dry, typically comfortable in the mornings and hot by mid-afternoon. Sun protection and water matter more than a jacket, though evenings cool noticeably.
How far is the Grand Canyon?
About three and a half to four hours by road each way, so it is a long full-day trip rather than an afternoon excursion.
