DevFest Cochabamba 2026 is an afternoon of AI, cloud and web talks hosted by GDG Cochabamba on Saturday 5 December 2026. Cochabamba sits at roughly 2,550 metres in a fertile valley in central Bolivia and is known for its spring-like climate and serious food culture. Early December is the start of the rainy season, so expect warm days with afternoon storms, and an easy excuse to stay on for the post-event networking in a relaxed, affordable city.
Jorge Wilstermann International Airport (CBB) lies a few kilometres south-west of the city centre, with domestic flights from Santa Cruz (VVI) and La Paz (LPB); most international visitors connect through one of those two. A taxi from the airport to the centre takes around 15-20 minutes. Long-distance buses also link Cochabamba with La Paz and Santa Cruz, but journeys take many hours.

Mobile data is useful for ride-hailing, maps and currency conversion, and local SIM registration can take time for visitors. Setting up an eSIM before arriving means you are online as soon as you land at CBB. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Cristo de la Concordia. The giant Christ statue on San Pedro hill overlooks the whole valley and is reached by cable car or a long staircase from the east end of the city. Go in the morning before the conference, as December afternoons often bring storms. Allow two hours including the ride and time at the viewpoint.
La Cancha market. One of the largest open markets in South America sprawls across the southern part of the centre, selling everything from produce to textiles. It is busiest on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Keep valuables secure, carry small bolivianos notes and allow one to two hours.
Palacio Portales. The early-20th-century mansion of tin magnate Simón I. Patiño, set in formal gardens in the north of the city, is now a cultural centre with guided visits. It gives good context on Bolivia's mining history. Check opening hours in advance and allow about an hour.
Will the altitude affect me in Cochabamba?
At about 2,550 metres Cochabamba is much lower than La Paz, and most visitors adjust quickly. Drink plenty of water and take it easy on your first day, especially if you arrive from sea level.
Do I need a visa to visit Bolivia?
It depends on your nationality: many visitors enter visa-free, while some nationalities need a visa in advance or on arrival. Check current requirements with a Bolivian consulate before travelling.
Is cash needed in Cochabamba?
Yes. Cards work in larger restaurants and hotels, but markets, taxis and small shops usually expect cash in bolivianos, so withdraw some on arrival.
