GITEX GLOBAL is one of the world's largest technology exhibitions, moving to Expo City Dubai for its December 2026 edition. A one-day summit on 7 December on AI sovereignty and scalability is followed by a four-day expo from 8 to 11 December. It convenes tech executives, government leaders, startups and investors from over 150 countries around AI, quantum computing, robotics and data centre innovation.

GITEX moves to Expo City Dubai for its December edition, on the site of the 2020 world expo out towards Jebel Ali rather than the older Trade Centre grounds. December is the best month to be in the emirate: daytime highs around 25-27C, cool evenings, and no humidity to speak of. Attendees get a purpose-built, heavily shaded campus and a metro line running straight to the gate.
Two airports serve the city. Dubai International (DXB) is the main hub, roughly 45 kilometres and 40-50 minutes from Expo City by road. Al Maktoum International (DWC) is far closer, about 10 kilometres out. The Metro Red Line runs a dedicated branch to the Expo City station at the venue entrance, taking around an hour from the DXB terminals with one interchange at Jebel Ali.

Coverage across Expo City and the metro corridor is excellent, but roaming charges in the UAE catch a lot of visitors out. Museum of the Future. The stainless-steel torus on Sheikh Zayed Road is the one architectural stop that fits a technology conference. Al Fahidi Historical District and the abra crossing. Wind-tower houses, narrow sikkas and the old Bastakiya quarter sit on the Bur Dubai side of the creek. Cross to Deira by abra, the traditional wooden ferry, for a few dirhams. Go late afternoon when the heat drops and the souks reopen. Allow half a day including the crossing.
Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall. At the Top observation decks on levels 124 and 148 are a 40-minute metro ride from Expo City. Sunset slots command a premium and book out first. Desert dune country. Half-day trips into the Al Marmoom or Lahbab dunes leave from central pickup points, typically forty minutes from the city. December conditions are ideal, with cool afternoons and clear skies for stargazing. Operators vary widely in quality, so check what is actually included before booking.
Which Dubai airport is closer to Expo City?
Al Maktoum International (DWC) is about 10 kilometres away, far closer than Dubai International (DXB) at roughly 45 kilometres. Most long-haul flights still land at DXB, which connects to the venue by Metro Red Line in about an hour.
