Antwerp in mid-November is grey, brisk and unhurried, which suits a five-day developer conference well. The venue sits north of the centre in a district that empties out in the evening, while the medieval core a short tram ride away stays busy with brown cafés and small restaurants. The city is compact, flat and easy to cross on foot, and the contrast between its Flemish guild architecture and the modern port is its defining character.
Most international arrivals come through Brussels Airport (BRU), which has direct trains to Antwerp Central in around thirty-five to forty-five minutes. Antwerp International (ANR) is far smaller but sits fifteen minutes from the centre. Antwerp Central is itself a destination, and the tram and premetro network reaches the conference district in ten to fifteen minutes. Thalys and Eurostar services connect from Paris, Amsterdam and London.

MAS Museum aan de Stroom. A red sandstone tower in the old docklands north of the centre, close to the conference district. The spiral escalator route to the rooftop terrace is free and gives the best overview of the port and city. Allow ninety minutes including the galleries.
Rubens House. The restored home and studio of Peter Paul Rubens, showing how a working seventeenth-century painter lived and traded. Compact enough for an hour and a short walk from the cathedral. Which airport should be booked?
Brussels Airport has by far the widest route network and a direct train to Antwerp Central in under forty-five minutes. Antwerp International is closer but serves few destinations.
What is the weather like in November?
Cool and damp, with highs around eight degrees Celsius and frequent light rain. A waterproof layer is more useful than a heavy coat.
Is English widely spoken?
Yes. Antwerp is Dutch-speaking, but English is spoken almost universally in hotels, restaurants and shops.
