The Enterprise AI Summit meets in Charlotte in early October, when North Carolina sheds its summer humidity and settles into the most comfortable stretch of the year. Charlotte is the second-largest banking centre in the United States, which gives an enterprise AI audience a natural local context of financial services and corporate IT. Uptown is compact, gridded and easy to cover on foot between sessions.
Charlotte Douglas International (CLT) is a major hub roughly 11 km west of Uptown, about 15 to 20 minutes by road. There is no rail link from the terminal, so plan on a taxi, rideshare or the airport express bus. Within the city the LYNX Blue Line light rail runs north to south through Uptown and South End, and the free CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar covers the central spine.

Uptown hotels and coffee shops all carry free Wi-Fi and cellular coverage across the metro is solid. NASCAR Hall of Fame. Charlotte is the operational centre of American stock car racing and this Uptown museum leans into it with racing simulators, restored cars and the banked track ramp running through the atrium. Discovery Place Science. A hands-on science museum in Uptown with an aquarium, rainforest room and rotating exhibitions, popular with families but not exclusively so. It is a reasonable rainy-afternoon fallback within a few blocks of the convention district. Allow ninety minutes to two hours.
Little Sugar Creek Greenway. A paved trail running south from Uptown through Freedom Park, giving you a genuine green corridor without leaving the city. Early October mornings are cool and the tree cover is starting to turn. An hour on foot gets you to the park and back, longer if you keep going.
U.S. National Whitewater Center. A large outdoor centre west of the city with artificial whitewater channels, ropes courses and trail networks, about 25 minutes by car. Access to the grounds and trails is free; the activities are ticketed. Half a day, and you will need a car or rideshare to reach it.
Do I need a car in Charlotte?
Not for Uptown, which is walkable and served by light rail and the free streetcar. You will want a car or rideshare for anything outside the core, such as the Whitewater Center.
How far is the airport from Uptown?
About 11 km, or 15 to 20 minutes by road outside rush hour. There is no train from the terminal, so budget for a taxi, rideshare or the express bus.

Warm days and cool evenings, typically the most pleasant month of the year in Charlotte with low humidity. A light jacket for the evenings is usually enough.
