The Gerrit User Summit is the annual community gathering for users and developers of Gerrit, the open-source, web-based code review system built around Git. It is organised by volunteer Gerrit community managers with support from Google and GerritForge, and welcomes administrators, contributors, practitioners and anyone interested in the platform's direction. Registration is free and open to all. The 2026 summit takes place on 9–10 November in the San Francisco Bay Area as an in-person event. This year it is co-hosted with a JJ Mini Summit dedicated to the Jujutsu version control ecosystem, reflecting growing interest in new workflows on top of Git. A three-day hackathon follows the summit, aimed at making partial clones a practical alternative to Git LFS. Attendees hear talks from maintainers and organisations running Gerrit at scale, exchange operational experience and influence the project roadmap directly. The hackathon offers hands-on collaboration on code, testing and deployment concerns. For an open-source code review community that relies on a relatively small core of contributors, this Gerrit conference 2026 in California remains the main opportunity to meet in person and coordinate the future of the tool.

November in San Francisco is cool and often clearer than summer, once the fog season has passed - days around 15C with the first rains of the season arriving. A compact open-source summit suits the city well: the peninsula's core is only seven miles square and BART plus Muni cover most of what delegates need. Pack layers, because the temperature difference between a sunny street and a shaded one is genuinely significant here.
San Francisco International (SFO) connects to downtown by BART in about 30 minutes, running directly from the international terminal. Oakland (OAK) links via BART too and is often cheaper; San Jose (SJC) is an hour south and better suited to South Bay stays. Within the city, Muni buses and the metro cover the neighbourhoods, and a Clipper card or contactless payment works across all of it.

Downtown coverage is strong, though it thins in the hillier western neighbourhoods. A travel eSIM arranged before you land avoids US roaming rates and works straight off the BART platform. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Golden Gate Park and the de Young. A park larger than Central Park, holding the de Young museum, the California Academy of Sciences and the Japanese Tea Garden. The de Young's observation tower is free and gives a full-city view. Half a day covers two of the three; the park is a 25-minute Muni ride from downtown. Tickets on Go City →
Alcatraz Island. The former federal penitentiary in the bay, reached by ferry from Pier 33 with an excellent audio tour narrated by former inmates and guards. Tickets routinely sell out two to three weeks ahead, so book before you travel. Allow three hours door to door.
Ferry Building Marketplace. A restored 1898 terminal on the Embarcadero, now a food hall of local producers with a farmers market on Saturdays. It is a short walk from downtown hotels and a reliable lunch or early-evening stop. An hour, more if the market is on.
Mission District murals. Balmy Alley and Clarion Alley hold decades of Latino political mural work, a few blocks from 24th Street Mission BART. Combine with the Mission's taquerias for the best-value meal in the city. Ninety minutes on foot; go in daylight.
How do I get in from SFO?
BART runs directly from the airport to downtown San Francisco in about 30 minutes. It is faster and much cheaper than a taxi or rideshare in traffic.
What is the weather like in November?
Cool and variable, around 15C, with the season's first rain likely. The fog is less of a factor than in summer, but layers are essential.
Is a car worth renting?
No, not for a city-centre summit. Parking is scarce and expensive, and BART plus Muni reach everything. Rent only if you plan to drive to Marin or the coast.
