Early November is one of Seoul's best windows: dry, clear and around 8-14C, with the last of the autumn colour on the palace grounds and Bukhansan's slopes. Gyeongbokgung Palace. The principal Joseon dynasty palace in the city centre, with a changing-of-the-guard ceremony several times daily and Bukhansan's ridgeline behind. Bukchon Hanok Village. A hillside grid of restored traditional wooden houses between two palaces, still largely residential, with steep lanes opening onto rooftop views. Signage asks visitors to keep noise down and residential hours are enforced. Visit before mid-morning. An hour on foot, with tea houses for a longer stop.
Hongdae district. The university quarter west of the centre, dense with indie music venues, late-opening cafes, street performance and cheap food. It runs later than almost anywhere else in the city, which suits post-conference schedules. Reachable on subway lines 2, 6 and the AREX. Two to three hours in the evening.
Bukhansan National Park. Granite peaks rising directly at the northern edge of the metropolitan area, reachable by subway and a short bus ride. Baegundae is the popular summit route, roughly four hours return with some scrambling. November conditions are cold but clear and stable. Proper footwear is essential.
