Romerberg Christmas Market. One of Germany's oldest markets, set in the reconstructed medieval square beneath the Romer town hall. Apfelwein rather than gluhwein is the regional drink. An hour or two in the evening, and it runs through the full conference period.
Main Tower. The only high-rise in the banking district with a public observation platform, giving a clear read of the city and the river valley beyond. Clear winter days offer long visibility. Forty-five minutes including the lift, and evening visits catch the towers lit.
Sachsenhausen. An old quarter across the river with cobbled lanes and traditional apple wine taverns serving green sauce and schnitzel. Distinctly different in atmosphere from the corporate centre. Two hours in the evening, easily reached on foot across the Eiserner Steg bridge.
