PgConf.Nepal 2026 gathers the PostgreSQL community in Kathmandu for four days of talks and training at the Pulchowk Campus of Tribhuvan University. The event mixes international PostgreSQL contributors with the growing South Asian open source database community. It runs 18-21 November 2026.

PgConf.Nepal spans four days in late November on the Pulchowk Campus of Tribhuvan University, across the river in Lalitpur rather than central Kathmandu. November is the clearest month of the Nepali year: the monsoon is long finished, the air has washed out, and the Himalayan wall is visible on the northern horizon on good mornings. It is also festival season aftermath, so the valley is lively without being unbearably hot.
Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) is the only international gateway, six kilometres east of the city. Prepaid taxi counters inside the terminal are the simplest option and reach Lalitpur in 30 to 50 minutes depending on traffic, which is heavy and unpredictable. Ride-hailing apps operate in the valley. Within the city, short taxi hops are normal; agree the fare before setting off if the meter is not used.

Mobile data from the local carriers is inexpensive and covers the whole Kathmandu Valley, though speeds vary and power cuts can still affect fixed connections. An eSIM activated on arrival avoids queueing at an airport SIM desk and keeps maps working through the drive into Lalitpur. Patan Durbar Square. The old royal square of Lalitpur, roughly two kilometres from the campus and the finest concentration of Newar palace and temple architecture in the valley. Much of it has been rebuilt since 2015. Go early morning for the light and allow two hours including the Patan Museum.
Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple). A hilltop stupa west of the river, reached by a long stone stairway or a road to the upper car park. The valley panorama from the top is the reason to climb. Sunrise or late afternoon are the best times; allow two hours including travel.
Boudhanath Stupa. One of the largest stupas anywhere and the centre of Tibetan Buddhist life in Nepal. Walk the kora clockwise with the crowd at dusk when butter lamps are lit. It sits on the far northeast side of the city, so budget the better part of a half day.
Thamel. The traveller district in central Kathmandu, dense with trekking outfitters, bookshops and restaurants. Useful for gear, currency and a change of pace after four conference days. Evening is when it comes alive; expect to bargain in the shops.
Do I need a visa for Nepal?
Most nationalities can obtain a visa on arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport using the kiosks in the terminal. Check your own country's current requirements and bring a passport photo and payment to speed it up.
What is the weather like in late November?
Dry and clear, with daytime temperatures around 18 to 22 degrees Celsius and cold mornings and nights near or below 5 degrees. Bring warm layers for the evenings.
Is cash necessary?
Yes, more so than in most conference destinations. Cards work in hotels and larger restaurants, but taxis, markets and smaller venues expect Nepali rupees.
