PGDay Israel takes place on a single late-October day in Tel Aviv, which is arguably the city at its best: the summer heat has broken, the sea is still warm enough to swim, and the evenings are long and dry. The conference is hosted in the AWS Experience space in the central business district, a few blocks back from the beachfront, so you can be in the water within fifteen minutes of the closing talk.
Ben Gurion Airport (TLV) is the single gateway, about 20 kilometres southeast of the city. Israel Railways runs from the airport terminal to Tel Aviv HaShalom and Savidor Central in roughly fifteen minutes, which is the fastest and cheapest route into town. Taxis and ride-hailing take 25 to 40 minutes depending on traffic. Note that trains and most buses do not run from Friday afternoon through Saturday evening.
Skip the taxi queue — pre-book a fixed-price airport transfer with Welcome Pickups. Exploring beyond the city? compare rental cars on EconomyBookings.
Mobile coverage across Tel Aviv is fast and near-universal, and cafes along Rothschild and the beach promenade almost all offer free Wi-Fi. An eSIM bought before departure saves you hunting for a SIM counter after a long flight and keeps navigation live on the ride in. Set up an eSIM with Airalo before you board and you're online the moment you land.
Old Jaffa and the flea market. The ancient port at the southern end of the promenade, now a warren of stone alleys, galleries and the Shuk HaPishpeshim flea market. Late afternoon is the moment, when the market bars fill up and the light hits the sea. Budget two to three hours including the walk down.
Carmel Market (Shuk HaCarmel). The city's main produce market and a good crash course in what Israelis actually eat. Go mid-morning while everything is still stacked high, and eat as you go rather than sitting down. It is a ten-minute walk from the conference district.
Tel Aviv Museum of Art. Strong Israeli and international modern collections in a sharply angular building near the venue side of town. It is a good rainy-hour option, though late October rarely needs one. Ninety minutes covers the main halls at an unhurried pace. Tickets on Tiqets →
The Tayelet beachfront promenade. A continuous paved strip running the length of the city seafront, busy with runners at dawn and dusk. Walking the stretch from the port down to Jaffa takes about an hour and is the simplest way to get the geography of the city straight in your head.
How do I get from Ben Gurion Airport to the city centre?
Take the train from the airport station to Tel Aviv HaShalom or Savidor Central; it runs frequently and takes around fifteen minutes. Avoid relying on it on Shabbat, when service stops.
What is the weather like in late October?
Warm and dry, generally in the mid to high twenties Celsius during the day, with pleasant evenings. Swimming is still comfortable and rain is uncommon.
Is English widely spoken?
Yes, very widely in Tel Aviv, and menus and signage are usually bilingual. Card payment is accepted almost everywhere.
